Education minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has appointed a special consulting committee…

According to reliable sources, Labrooy is almost certain to replace Sanath Jayasuriya as chief selector in time to finalize Sri Lanka’s Test squad for the upcoming two-match series against Pakistan in the UAE. Jayasuriya and his committee resigned at the end of the disastrous home series against India where the hosts lost all 9 matches across 3 formats.

Sri Lanka’s tour to UAE to play Pakistan comprises of 2 Test Matches, 5 ODIs, and 3 T20I matches with the last T20I to be played at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore (subject to security clearance).

Former Maris Stella College fast-bowler, Labrooy represented Sri Lanka in 9 Tests and 44 ODIs from 1986 to 1992 and currently functions as a regional Match Referee (Asia) for ICC and will have to resign from his position in order to take up the position.
