Championship winning Zahira College and Colombo FC Head Coach Mohamed Roomy has been given a 3 match ban by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL).

Roomy was handed the ban and a Rs.5,000/- fine after being found guilty of unacceptable behavior in the final of the 2016 Kotmale U19 Schools’ Football Championship, by the disciplinary committee. The match ban will apply to the matches conducted by the FFSL.

“There was a warning issued earlier as well to him (Roomy) regarding his behaviour in the semi-final of the 2014/2015 FA Cup between Army and Colombo FC. In the Schools’ Final he was excessively protesting referees’ decisions and kicked a bottle which went into the opponent’s technical area, which is unacceptable. The report came from the referees, so upon looking into the matter the committee decided to punish him,” CEO of the FFSL U.L.Jaswar told exclusively with ThePapare.com.

“We don’t want to ruin anybody’s career but the conduct has to be exemplary. He is a leading coach,” he went onto say.

The incident happened late in the final between Zahira College and St. Patrick’s College with Zahira leading 3-0 and on their way to another championship. Zahira was awarded a corner kick which according to Roomy was taken in a tactical manner like in the video below.

Shafran Sathar (Rooney) had taken the ball out of the corner and while Mohamed Shaheel (Giggs) was on his way to the ball, referee Ashantha Dias had whistled and given a yellow card for time wasting. At this instance only Roomy had been enraged and showed his displeasure through words and actions.

“The laws have changed. In that particular incident, the law clearly says the actions of the match need to be seen by the opponent. You can’t do magic. There was another lecture from FIFA and this kind of incident was addressed and they said you cannot do this,” Jaswar added.

However ThePapare.com reliably learns that Mohamed Roomy was not summoned to the inquiry before taking a decision, which is not the norm when conducting any inquiry.

“They say I have been banned but I still haven’t received any official letter regarding this matter,” Roomy told ThePapare.com
