Ministry of Education introduces Schools’ Athletics tournament for Kids

In order to improve physical exercise requirement for younger kids, the Ministry of Education has decided to organize an All Island Schools’ Kids Athletic tournament.

The main aim of the tournament is to develop unity, team spirit, friendship and other character building qualities among children. The ministry of education introduced the tournament in 2015 and currently the program conducts the team sports for the grades 3, 4, and 5 in an aim to improve Sri Lanka’s future in athletics.

Nestle Lanka has joined hands to sponsor the tournament and is a part of the Nestle’ Kids Athletics program. The physical activity component of the Nestle’ Healthy Kids program teaches school children about improved diets, healthy cooking, hydration, safety food and hygiene. More than 17,500 kids from 247 divisional level games across 74 zonal levels and 7 provincial games took part in the programme in the year of 2017.

The competition for the Grades 3 and 4 will take place on the 3rd of March at Bogambara Stadium Kandy while the competition for the grade 5 students will take place on the 25th of March at the Maris Stella grounds in Negambo.
