Commendable Sri Lanka draw against Lithuania

Sri Lanka held onto a 0-0 draw against Lithuania in an international friendly held today…

Sri Lanka kicked off the first half and in the first minute got their first opportunity at goal when they were awarded a free-kick just outside the Lithuania penalty box.

Dilan Kaushalya took the opportunity to pass the ball to Kavindu Ishan who put in a great cross into the box, to which Captain Bandara Warakagoda got a header to, but the effort went just wide of the post.

Lithuania few minutes later got their first proper chance at goal, but the shot was well off target and not enough to bother goalkeeper Prabath Arunasiri.

Sri Lanka were looking very confident on the ball, carrying out some brilliant passing play seemingly playing without any fear, however Lithuania were always quick to win the ball back.

Lithuania again got a good opportunity to get a breakthrough when a powerful cross was struck into the box, but Arunasiri rushed off his line to punch it away to safety. Lithuania soon after were awarded a free-kick just outside the box and Eliosius stepped up and struck it well, but his effort went just over the crossbar.

Lithuania’s skipper Martynas Dapkus slipped and gave away the ball to Kavindu Ishan who brilliantly dribbled into the box and put a good cross to which Rizkhan Faizer dove in with a header, but just could not get the telling touch to the ball.

Lithuania then came very close to scoring when Eliosius took a curling shot but following a deflection it was brilliantly headed off the line by Warakagoda.
