Kyle Abeysinghe emerged the champion of the under 14 400m freestyle, at the Junior National Short Course Swimming Championship held at the D. S. Senanayake swimming complex Colombo. The mega event organized by Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union, commenced yesterday and concluded today.
Kyle clocked 4.49 minutes winning the event Joshua Jesuthasan came in second clocking 5.03. Uththama Silva representing Mahamaya College Kandy (MCK) clocked 5.17 minutes to emerge the champion while Deekshi Gunasekare of Lyceum International School Waththala (LISW) swam up runner up in the under 14 400 meter free style event.
Mohammed Lukman representing Colombo International School Kandy took just 1.18 minutes at the under 14 100 m Breast stroke event to emerge the champion while Lasith Gamage of Gateway College managed to secure the runners up position. Meanwhile Mahesha Yapa and Dasuni Udugama gave battled to the finish with Yapa edging over with a timing of 1.25 while Dasuni following close behind on 1.27 minutes.
Mahamaya College Kandy took the Girls 14 200m Medley Relay emerging champions and runners up. The first group consisted of with Sandeepa Karunathilaka, Mahesha Yapa, Devindya Jayawardhana and Uththama Silva ended their relay within 2.27 minutes while the group B with O. Weerasinghe, T.Y Kariyawasam, N. Mahakumara and M.H.Hewage ended within 2.20 minutes.
At the boys Under 14 200 m Medley Relay St. Peter’s College defeated their counterpart Lyceum International School Wattala. It was a close battled between the two schools which the adjuticators found difficult to decipher the winners. St. Peter’s College consisting of Rasitha Perera, Dewin Ranasinghe, Akalanka Peieris and Thatushi Galappaththi were adjudged winners with a timing of 2.17.52 while the Lyceum quartet of Prithiwiraj Kalyanasundaram, Diluk Jayathilaka, Radush Sathasiwam and Rakitha De Silva came in at 2.17.72.
