Dilshan joins City Kaitak for Hong Kong T20 Blitz

City Kaitak have named their first overseas player and have signed Tillakaratne Dilshan for the Hong Kong T20 Blitz, the franchise confirmed on Wednesday (January 18). The league has seen quite a few big signing already with the likes of Kumar Sangakkara, Darren Sammy and Shahid Afridi joining the tournament.

“I am very excited to be associated with City Kaitak and looking forward to playing in Hong Kong with a great bunch of young Hong Kong players,” said Dilshan. “Not only will I use every opportunity to play my favourite shot, Dilscoop, wearing the City Kaitak colours and entertain the viewers, but I will help with the long-term development of the game in Hong Kong.”

A City Kaitak spokesperson, understandably happy with their their new signing, felt the squad was shaping up well ahead of the tournament. “We are extremely delighted to have such a senior and respected player like Dilshan join our City Kaitak team, which has good mix of young talented cricketers of Hong Kong,” he said. “The way tournament is shaping up, we are confident that this event will be watched and followed by cricketing fans around the world.

“With four more overseas players yet to be announced, City Kaitak team is a clear favourite of the Blitz. Bringing Robin Singh as the international coach and mentor, and experienced Dilshan is clearly a part of team’s vision: “Be a part, Stand apart”.”

The league has seen a number of international stars being part of it. Former Australia captain, Michael Clarke, had represented Cantons as a marquee player last year.The tournament will be played from March 8-12 between five teams – Galaxy Gladiators Lantau, HKI United, City Kaitak, Kowloon Cantons and Hung Hom JD Jaguars.
