It seems like the Sri Lankan pacers are in an intense race to return home before the series ends as news emerges from Autralia of a possible injury to the leader of the pace pack Suranga Lakmal.

Captain Dinesh Chandimal, speaking to the press ahead of the 2nd Test in Canberra, mentioned that the management is monitoring Lakmal’s situation and no decision has been taken yet whether he will be available for the second test.

Lakmal’s presence is vital for the visitors if they are to put up any fight at Canberra as the leader of the attack showed his worth with a disciplined spell of bowling to be rewarded with a much deserved 5 wicket haul at the Gabba in the 1st Test. Needless to say, it would be a major blow to the visitors if Lakmal is not available.

This is the fourth injury concern within the last three weeks for Sri Lanka as Nuwan Pradeep, Lahiru Kumara (hamstring) and Dushmantha Chameera (ankle) who were penciled into the original squad, are already out of action.

Young all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne, who joined the Test squad yesterday, is certain to make his debut at Canberra while Kasun Rajitha and Vishwa Fernando will take the new ball, IF Lakmal is ruled out due to the injury.
