The extravagant Carlton cup tournament spanning over almost two months got off ground in dreary weather conditions recently. On its 6th day today, the reigning champions continued their dominance in the league giving the contenders warning signs of things to come.

The champions of Carlton cup 2011 Colombo Basketball club went head to head with the semifinalists from 2011 Sri Lanka Navy Basketball club at the Police park basketball courts. The champions from last year were dominant the entire match however the Navy team showed glimpses of what they could offer with their attack and defense making it a hard fought encounter. At the end of the first two quarters the Navy team was outplayed by the reigning champions as they led 39 – 27 at the half time break.

Both these teams are considered to be favourites in the “A” division category as they produced some sensational basketball last year. This year too they carried out their form and looked well on top of their game.

Colombo led Navy 61 – 49 after the 3rd quarter as Colombo started to dominated the game and go into the 4th quarter with a handy lead of 12 points. The match ended at 83 – 69 with Colombo walking away winners. The Colombo basketball team showed that they are a force to reckon with this year as well.

In the other ‘B’ division game which was held at Amal International Basketball courts between Vazians and Maroons the former managed to win the game by 65 points to 39.
