Azquiya Usuph secures a Gold medal in Snowboarding

Azquiya Usuph, a young up and coming athlete from the British School, Colombo, has secured herself a Gold Medal in Snowboarding at 2016 Dream Program Games held in Pyeongchang, Korea.

The Dream Program introduced by the Gangwon Provincial Government of the Republic of Korea, has been held from 2004 onwards as a run up prior to the Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games and was held this year from the 17th to the 29th January.

The Dream Program is a winter sports training program and competition to nurture young talents from all over the world with special focus on Asia, Africa, Latin America & Middle East Countries hosted by the Gangowan Province since 2004.

Azquiya Usuph secures a Gold medal in SnowboardingIt has groomed, since its inception in 2004, over 1618 young athletes from over 75 countries and produced 156 athletes to compete in International Level competitions as at 2015.

In 2015, the Dream Program had a record participation of 169 athletes from 42 countries and it was during that year that Azquiya was placed 1st in the Snowboarding event, securing a gold medal for Sri Lanka.

The record participation was surpassed in 2016, when a total number of 179 athletes from 44 countries participated in the event. Usuph was once again placed 1st in the Snowboarding event, securing a second consecutive gold medal for Sri Lanka.

The Dream Program from its inception has groomed athletes for Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games in 7 sports and 15 disciplines.
