“Battle of the Maroons” one of the most exciting and popular cricket encounters is played between Ananda College Colombo and Nalanda College Colombo which are two prominent brother schools in the Island.
The aim is to build a relationship between students of these two schools and develop cricket in their sporting arena. The first encounter was held way back in 1924 and 89th encounter is to be held in Colombo in the month of March 2018.
Nevertheless, the brotherhood between these two institutions has not been limited to an annual event in Colombo, but was able to reach across the globe. The first ever “Battle of the Maroons in Qatar” was held in 2013 and the 6th Annual encounter will be held on 09th February (Friday) 2018 at Mesaieed Sports Complex in Qatar from 7.00 am onwards.
This year Ananda team is led by Dilshan Perera and Nalanda team is led by Deneepa Moraes. There are two matches to be played on that day and the first game is 2nd XI match and the other game is 1st XI match. The first Sri Lankan Test Cricket Captain and Old Nalandian Mr. Bandula Waranpura will grace the occasion as Guest of honour.
