The 2018 DSI Supersport Schools’ Volleyball Championship will host a new age group when the tournament starts in April.
The tournament which will be held for the 18th time, originally inaugurated in the year of 1999 with around 198 teams taking part in that tournament.

Colonel Manjula Kariyawasam spoke at the Press Conference;
“Last time a total of around 4000 teams took part in the tournament and this time I am certain that about 5000 teams will take part. Last time the tournament included a U13 age group and this time we will include a new age group for the U11 category athletes who will be given the opportunity to take part.”
The tournament will consist of 5 age group categories being U11, U13, U15, U17 and U19 across the Island. The tournament, like in the previous years, will be conducted with the teams playing the initial stages at a District Level with the winners qualifying to play in the All-Island Level from which the semi-finalists and the finalists will be selected.

The District Tournament will take place on from 27th April to the 1st of May while the All-Island tournament will go from the 31st of May to the 2nd of July. The Grand Final will be held on the 3rd and 4th of August at the Maharagama National Youth Services Council Indoor Stadium.
Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyabalampitiya present at the occasion said, “We have made plans to make this year a revolutionary one for Volleyball in Sri Lanka. This tournament will be a good opportunity for the youngsters to show their worth and be better players in the future in the field of Volleyball.”

Applications have been already given to the schools and the closing date for registrations will be on the 6th of April. The applications can be taken from the DSI showrooms from all-round the Island and can be handed over to the show rooms or sent to No 257, Havelock Rd, Nawinna, Maharagama.
