Yupun Abeykoon clocked an impressive 10.08s (-1.2m/s) to finish 5th in the Men’s 100m at the Ostrava Golden Spike – Continental Tour Gold in the Czech Republic.

Abeykoon has had a massive season so far, setting new South Asian Records in both the 100m and 200m this month. His 10.08s is the 2nd fastest legal time he has run in competition, behind his 10.06s in Savona last week.

The Golden Spike event saw a number of familiar names competing in the Men’s 100m, where Brit Reece Prescod took top honours with a time of 9.93s (Personal Best); this made him the 1st European to break the 10 second barrier this year.

The 2nd – 6th places were separated by just 0.03s, with veteran Yohan Blake of Jamaica taking Silver with a run of 10.05 and Zharnel Hughes also finishing with a time of 10.05s in third place.

This run will take Abeykoon closer to qualifying for the IAAF World Chmapionships set to be held in Oregon from July 15th
