The games kicked off on the 21st and 22nd of May in Bangkok, Thailand. The winners and best timing athletes are chosen for the youth Olympics which will be held in Nanjing, china in August this year. As usual it was the Chinese who were the dominant force at these games by winning majority of the events.
The only joy for srilanka came in the expense of Anuradha Vidusanka who hails from St. Mary’s College, Kegalle. Hurdler Anuradha Vidusanka clocked in 52.97 seconds has qualified to represent the country at the forthcoming Youth Olympics when he was placed fourth in the boys 400 meters hurdles at the Asian Area Qualifying meet for Youth Olympics held in Bangkok, Thailand yesterday.
In the girls category Kuliyapitiya Central athlete Dilhani Fernando was placed third in the 800 meters final for a time of 2:11.55 seconds. However, with lesser number of quota places available for Asia in that discipline she has not been able to secure a place.
