On the first day of the World Junior Athletics Championships, Meron Wijesinghe was able to secure a significant victory.
Yesterday (27th) in Peru, Lima, the first day of the World Junior Athletics Championship commenced, with three of our Sri Lankan athletes competing.
Among them, Madushani Herath participated in the women’s long jump preliminary round, where her best recorded jump was 5.18 meters. This distance placed her 25th among the 25 competitors who took part in the event.
However, Sri Lanka’s team captain Meron Wijesinghe participated in the fourth heat of the men’s 100 meters preliminary round, recording a time of 10.55 seconds and qualifying for the semifinals of the event.
In this same event, Dineth Induwara participated in the sixth heat and managed to secure the 5th place with a time of 10.72 seconds. Unfortunately, this timing did not qualify him for the semifinals.
Out of the 64 athletes who competed in this event, Dineth finished in 43rd place, while Meron secured 24th position.
