World Aquatics Championships Doha 2024

The World Aquatics Championships, organized by the World Aquatics, the international governing body for Aquatic sports, bring together elite athletes from six disciplines of Swimming, Diving, Water Polo, Artistic Swimming, Open Water Swimming and High Diving around the world to Doha this year to find the best from the best.

A team of 4 Swimmers, 1 open-water Swimmer and a Diver will represent Sri Lanka at the World Aquatic Championships 2024 in Doha Qatar from the 02nd to 18th February 2024.

Dulanjan Fernando, the 3m Springboard national record holder, competed in the Men’s 1m Springboard event on the 03rd of February and placed overall 44th in the Preliminary round with 150. 40 points. He will compete in the Men’s 3m Springboard event on the 07th of February at the Hamad Aquatics Centre. Fernando is currently training in Canada under a World Aquatics Scholarship.

Dilanka Shehan, who is also currently training in the USA under a World Aquatics Scholarship, will swim the Men’s 5km Open Water Event on the 07th of February at the Doha Port.

The Swimming events of the competition will commence on the 11th of February at the Hamad Aquatics Centre. The Sri Lankan team consists of 2 male Swimmers and 2 female Swimmers.

Kyle Abeysinghe from Killer Whale Aquatics will compete in the Men’s 100m Freestyle and 50m Freestyle events on the 14th and 16th of February.

Akalanka Peiris, currently training in Australia, will race in the Men’s 100m Backstroke and 50m Backstroke events on the 12th and 17th of February.

Ganga Senevirathne from Killer Whale Aquatics will swim the Women’s 100m Backstroke and the 200m Backstroke events on the 12th and 16th of February, while Hiruki De Silva from Killer Whale Aquatics will race in the Women’s 200m Freestyle event and 100m Freestyle events on the 13th and 15th of February.

As of now, People’s Republic of China is leading the medal table.
