Wins for KDU and SLIIT on day two

Kothalawala Defence Univeristy and Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology recorded wins on day two in the RedBull Campus Cricket tournament 2015 held at Thurstan grounds on Friday.

Overnight rain meant that the first game of the two games to be played on day two was reduced to 12 overs per side. AUSTON won the toss and had no hesitation in inserting Kothalawala Defence University to have a bat first on a pitch with a lot of moist in it. They managed to restrict KDU to 89 runs with Vishnu Shaagar and Dulan Amuwatta sharing 3 wickets apiece. Former Thomian, Ramith Gunaratne top-scored with 25.

In reply, AUSTON never got going in their innings as they managed only 70 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, handing a 19-run win to the KDU boys. Few silly run-outs by AUSTON batsmen helped KDU’s cause. The bowlers were very economical for KDU while the fielders gave them good support to pull off their first win of the tournament. Left-handed first-class player from Ragama CC Lahiru Milantha managed to score 18 runs for the losing team.

In the second game of the day, SLIIT came out on top against VHE as expected with a comfortable 4-wicket win. It was interesting that they won the toss and decided to field after the first 3 games of the tournament going against the teams who fielded first. However, VHE batting first mustered only 65 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs with Thushan Dias, Heshan Rodrigo and Chamod Ranasinghe picking up 2 wickets each for SLIIT with the ball.

SLIIT reached their target with more than 3 overs to spare with right-handed Suchintha Lakshan making a top score of 17.
