Visakha and Vidyartha take major honours at School Games Table Tennis

Visakha Vidyalaya Colombo and Vidyartha College Kandy emerged victorious in the under 19 categories of the National Schools Games Table Tennis Championship that was held over the weekend at the S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia Indoor Sports Complex.

The National School Games Table Tennis Championship was held in lieu with the National School Games organised by the Ministry of Education and featured teams from around the country participating in the age categories of under 15 and under 19 in both boys and girls categories.

The under 15 boys’ category saw Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda emerged victorious in the final while coming in second place was Royal College. In third place was Kingswood College Kandy. While Ladies’ College Colombo emerged as champions in the under 15 girls’ championship run and in second place was Maliyadewa Balika M. V. Kurunegala and Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda girls’ took the third place.

The under 19 Boys’ competition saw an intensive fight in the finals with the heavyweights Vidyartha College and Ananda College locking horns in the finals. Champion paddler Imesh Udaya Ranasinghe led the surge for the Kandy side as his team won the tie 2-1. In third place was Royal College Colombo.

Visakha Vidyalaya led by the Sri Lanka junior captain Hansani Piumila defeated Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda 2-1 in the final tie. In third place was Mahamaya College Kandy.

Imesh Udaya Ranasinghe of Vidyartha College and Hansani Piumila was adjudged the best players in the tournament.
