Ushan Thiwanka wins Gold clearing 2.22m in America

Sri Lankan high-jumper Ushan Thiwanka has won the Gold medal in the Men’s High Jump event at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships 2022 in United States of America.

The 24-year old Thiwanka cleared a mark of 2.22m to take the top spot in the event held earlier today (28th May). Nishorn Pierre took the 2nd place with a mark of 2.19m, while Eli Kosiba won the 3rd place with a mark of 2.16m.

The former Maris Stella College student, Thiwanka won the national and South Asian record last year with a height of 2.30m in Men’s High Jump.

Due to his superb form in High Jump event, Thiwanka is considered as one of Sri Lanka’s top medal prospects in the upcoming Commonwealth Games which will be held in Birmingham, England in July.
