Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) has confirmed a landmark international opportunity for the country’s next generation of rugby talent, following a special invitation from the Korean Rugby Football Union (KRU). Under this programme, a Sri Lankan Under-15 Development Squad will travel to South Korea from 15th to 22ndDecember 2025 for an intensive high-performance training and exposure tour.

In a remarkable gesture of support toward strengthening youth rugby ties between the two nations, the KRU will fully sponsor the tour—including air travel, accommodation, meals, transport, and medical coverage—highlighting the deepening partnership between the unions.

SLR received the final confirmation of Korea’s invitation on 3rd of December, which left insufficient time to obtain the mandatory government clearances required to send an official national team. After discussions with the Sri Lanka Schools’ Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA), a practical and merit-based solution was adopted: rewarding the top two Under-14 teams of the 2025 season, Zahira College and Wesley College by selecting their players to form the touring development squad.

Under the new Sri Lanka Rugby administration led by President Pavithra Fernando this will be the first overseas tour with Junior Tuskers in action, and it could well be the first time in Sri Lanka Rugby history that an Under-15 team receives foreign exposure.

A total of 14 players seven from each school will make the tour, accompanied by an experienced coaching and management team led by Mr. Tuan Bohoran, alongside representatives from SLR — Mr. S.P. Chinthaka Perera – Vice President — and SLSRFA — Mr. Kamal Ariyasinghe – President– and a dedicated physiotherapist — Mr. Nimesh De Silva (Fist Aid world Rugby Level 1).

The KRU will fully sponsor the tour including air travel, accommodation, meals, transport, and medical coverage highlighting the deepening partnership between the unions.

SLR hailed the initiative as a milestone in advancing youth rugby pathways, offering players high-level training exposure and cultural exchange while strengthening ties with Asian rugby partners. The union extended its sincere gratitude to the KRU for its continued generosity and commitment to developing the sport.
