U23 Cricket – Akeel Inham clobber 191; Sangeeth Cooray take 9 for 95

Negombo CC, Navy SC and Moors SC managed to take major honours in their respective matches against NCC, Tamil Union and Colts as another match day ended on Monday. 

Two of the finest batting and bowling performances in the week 1 came from Akeel Inham of Negombo CC (191) and Sangeeth Cooray of Moors SC (9 for 95).

 

Negombo vs NCC

Opener Akeel Inham fell short of a well-deserved double ton when he was dismissed for 191 in 263 balls as Negombo accumulated 463 against NCC at Maitland Place. 

After successfully bowling the visitors out in the 2nd session on day 2, NCC led by Niroshan Dickwella’s quick-fire 98 reached 211 for 3 in just 40 overs.

Negombo CC – 463 all out in 138.3 overs: Akeel Inham 191, Chaturanga Rajapaksha 94, Praveen Dilanka 49, Lahiru Samarakoon 2/35, Dilshan Kanchana 2/77.

NCC – 211/3 in 40 overs: Niroshan Dickwella 97, Lahiru Udara 54, Dinan Fernando 2/54.

 

Tamil Union vs Navy SC

Right-handed Pulina Tharanga’s excellent ton could not take Tamil Union to a first-innings win over Navy at R. Premadasa Stadium. 

Chasing 317 runs to take first-innings lead, Tamil Union fell 43 runs short as Ashan Ranasinghe captured 4 wickets for the sailors. 

Navy SC – 316 all out in 91.1 overs: Lahiru Silva 64, Lahiru Jayakody 71, Ashan Ranasinghe 64, Ishara Prashan 2/33, Devin Pathmanadan 2/66.

Tamil Union C & AC – 273 all out in 69.1 overs: Pulina Tharanga 120, Madushan Ravichandrakumar 41, Ashan Ranasinghe 4/98, Ishan Abeysekara 3/52.

Navy SC (2nd inn) – 29/2 in 15 overs.

Colts vs Moors

Sangeeth Cooray’s extraordinary 9-wicket haul in an innings was the main highlight as Moors lead their game against Colts by 256 runs at the end of day two at Colts grounds.

Right-arm off-spin bowler, Sangeeth Cooray wrecked through Colts batting unit but the hosts took first-innings points. The visitors led by Dilshan Ranasinghe and Yashoda Lanka (Both made 57 each) reached 267 for 7 at close of play. 

Moors – 189 all out 36.3 overs: Shanuka Dulaj 51, Imraz Rassi 29, Chirath Mapatuna 2/45, Priyamal Perera 2/18, Minhaj Jaleel 2/08.

Colts – 250 all out in 65.2 overs: Vishad Randika 67, Minhaj Jaleel 39, Priyamal Perera 30, Sangeeth Cooray 9/95.

Moors (2nd inn) – 267/7 in 72 overs: Dilshan Ranasinghe 57, Yasoda Lanka 57, Chirath Mapatuna 3/104, Priyamal Perera 2/67.
