Pathiraja and Somaratne stroke tons as Trinity takes charge on day one

The traditional encounter between Royal College, Colombo and Trinity College, Kandy commenced today (27th May) at Asgiriya International Cricket Stadium. 

Having won the toss, the host team Trinity College opted to bat first to capitalize on the batting-friendly surface at Asgiriya.

However, things didn’t go as planned for Trinity College at the start as they lost 3 top-order wickets for 65 runs. The hosts managed to rebuild their innings thanks to Sri Lanka U19 caps Pawan Pathiraja and Ranuda Somaratne who added massive 220 runs for the fourth wicket.

The left-hander Pathiraja and the right-hander Somaratne stroked brilliant centuries as the hosts ended the first day’s play in a strong position at 353/9. Pathiraja top-scored with a knock of 133 runs off 210 balls with 9 fours while Somaratne made 100 runs off 118 balls with 4 fours.

The spin twins Sadisha Rajapaksha (4/94) and Gishan Balasooriya (3/96) were the top performers with the ball for the visitors who shared 7 wickets between them.
