St. Peter’s College beat Trinity College by 5 wickets in their U19 traditional encounter worked off yesterday (16th February) at Asgiriya Cricket Stadium.
Having won the toss, Trinity College opted to bat first and posted 189 runs on the board for their first innings. In reply, the visitors also struggled with the bat as they were restricted to 150 runs conceding a 39-run advantage to the hosts.
However, the Trinity College batters couldn’t pile on the advantage as they were contained for just 109 runs in their second essay, leaving a target of 149 runs to chase for St. Peter’s College.
The visitors showed a better batting display in the second innings as they crossed over the line with 5 wickets to spare. The Peterite spinners Niman Umesh and Wanuja Sahan were the star performers of their victory as the former had a match bag of ten wickets while the latter picked up a match bag of seven wickets.
The other traditional encounter played between St. Anthony’s College and Thurstan College at St. Anthony’s College Grounds in Kandy ended in a draw. St. Anthony College’s Asitha Wanninayake’s all-round show was the major highlight of the drawn encounter where he stood up with the bat scoring 63 runs while picking up a match bag of 8 wickets with the ball.
