Two traditional encounters of the U19 Schools Cricket Tournament were played today (07th May) at Colombo and Moratuwa.

The traditional encounter between St. Sebastian’s College and Trinity College ended a draw today at St. Sebastian’s College Grounds in Moratuwa. Ranuda Somarathne’s brilliant century helped Trinity rescue their first innings and take honours in the drawn encounter.

Somarathne made 150 runs off 138 balls with 8 fours and 11 sixes at an impressive strike rate of 108.70. Theeraka Ranatunga also excelled with the ball for the visitors, taking a 5-wicket haul in the 2nd innings.

Ananda College managed to take the upper hand on day one of their traditional encounter against Maliyadeva College, which began today at Ananda College Grounds in Colombo. Hansaja Jayasinghe (55) and Tehaan Perera (5/29) were the star performers of Ananda’s dominating display on day one.

Meanwhile, Mahanama College registered a massive win against D. S. Senanayake College in the 16th Battle of the Golds One Day Encounter, played today at Dambulla. Koojana Perera’s magnificent century and 3-wicket haul picked up by Dhanaja Edirisinghe stood out in Mahanama victory.
