Thomian seamer Caniston breaks Nalanda’s spine

The traditional encounter between Nalanda College and S. Thomas’ College commenced today (06th June) at S. Thomas’ College Grounds in Mount Lavinia.

Having won the toss, the visiting Nalanda College opted to bat first at the hosts’ backyard. However, things did not pan out as planned for the visitors, as they lost the first 6 wickets for just 95 runs.

Nalanda’s number 7 batter Eranga Jayakody & number 8 batter Dineth Samaraweera rescued the innings, building a 91-run partnership for the 7th wicket as they posted 215 for their first innings.

Samaraweera added 60 runs off 87 balls with 5 fours to Nalanda’s total, while Jayakody chipped in with a fighting 51 runs off 59 balls with 8 fours. Gunaratnam Caniston was the mainstay with the ball for the Thomians as he bagged 4 wickets for 79 runs.

In reply, the hosts got off to a slow start as they made 34/1 in 20 overs at the close of play on day one.
