Five 2-day encounters of the U19 Inter-Schools Cricket Tournament were played today (20th January) at several venues across the island.

St. Peter’s College managed to claim first innings points against Thurstan College in their Tier ‘B’ two-day encounter which ended today at Thurstan College Grounds. After restricting the visitors to 184, Thurstan College was in a good position at 53/2 at stumps on day one, expecting to go past the opposition’s score and claim first innings points on day two.

However, things didn’t go as planned for the hosts as they were bundled out for just 152 runs falling short by 32 runs. It was a brilliant collective bowling effort from the St. Peter’s bowling lineup led by Sean Roborts (3/24), Shennan Rodrigo (3/30) and Ihsira Ayupala (2/45).

St. Peter’s College displayed an improved batting effort in the second innings posting 226/7 at the close of play on day two. Vishen Helambage and Kavika Jayasundara stroked half-centuries for the visitors while Vihas Thewmika starred with the ball for the hosts taking a 6-wicket haul.

St. Servatius College registered a convincing 10-wicket win over Dharmasoka College in their Tier ‘B’ two-day encounter which ended today at Uyanwatta Stadium in Matara.

After being 181/6 at stumps on day one, St. Servatius College added 85 more runs to the total on day two before declaring their first innings at 266/9. Chiran Neththaru was the standout batter for Servatius as he stroked 83 runs.

Dharmasoka College began their second innings 177 runs behind and posted only 185 in their 2nd essay with the bat, setting an easy target of 9 runs for the opposition. Viran Chamuditha was the wrecker-in-chief with the ball for the victorious Matara boys in the 2nd innings as he picked up 4 wickets for just 11 runs.
