Thanuga gets seven as Thurstan close in on 1st innings win

A couple of U19 Division I two-day games kicked off today in Galle & Colombo between Mahinda College and Thurstan College & Trinity College and Royal College respectively.

Despite Hareen Achintha (45) and Pramesh Madhubhashana (39) putting together 76 runs for the 1st wicket, Mahinda College were bowled out for 161 runs in their own backyard. Thanuga Palihawadana’s left arm orthodox was a treat to watch as he bagged 7 scalps for only 34 runs.

Thurstan batters got off to a good start as they were 142/2 at the end of day 1 with the skipper Shanikya Deshapriya and Thenuka Dewapriya unbeaten on 54 and 30 respetively.

Opener, Kusal Wijethunga set the platform with a hundred for Trinity College against Royal College as they posted 300 runs in their 1st innings. Jayavi Liyanagama made 68.

Disas Sanvindu and Rehan Peiris were able to put together a solid 50-run stand on day 1 in Royal’s reply.
