Six 2-day encounters of the U19 Inter-Schools Cricket Tournament 2022/2023 were played today (14th February), at several venues across the island.
D.S. Senanayake College registered an innings win over Zahira College in their traditional encounter which was played today at D. S. Senanayake College Grounds.
After posting a solid first innings score thanks to Senura Silva’s magnificent century, the hosts managed to bowl out the opposition twice by displaying a dominant show with the ball.
Deshan Hettige and Poorna Sulakshana were the heroes with the ball for the victorious D. S. Senanayake College. Hettige bagged a 5-wicket haul in the 1st innings, while Sulakshana delivered a magnificent bowling performance in the 2nd innings, claiming 6 wickets.
Richmond College registered a 112-run win over Ananda College in their traditional encounter which was worked off today at Dombagoda. The bowlers from both sides dominated the low-scoring game, where two players stood out above the rest with magnificent spells.
Kithma Withanapathirana of Ananda College picked up a match bag of 10 wickets, while Malsha Tharupathi of Richmond College grabbed a match bag of 9 wickets.
S.Thomas’ College recorded first innings points in the drawn Tier ‘A’ 2-day encounter against St. Anthony’s College. Having posted 250 for the 1st innings, the visitors managed to restrict the hosts to 180 thanks to the excellent bowling efforts of Akash Fernando and Charuka Peiris, who picked up 3 wickets each.
However, the Anthonians displayed an outstanding bowling performance in the 2nd innings as they bowled out the visitors for just 118 runs. Thisara Ekanayake produced a magnificent spell taking 7 wickets for 34 runs.
St. Anthony’s College were set a target of 189 runs to win, but they could only post 135 runs for 6 wickets as umpires called stumps for the day.
