Nine 2-day encounters of the U19 Inter Schools Cricket Tournament were played today (03rd January), at several venues across the island.
Mahanama College registered an innings win over St. Thomas’ College in their Tier ‘A’ two-day encounter, which ended today at FTZ Sports Complex in Katunayake. St. Thomas College began their 2nd innings today 160 runs behind, when they once again faltered with the bat, being bowled out for 126 runs and handing an innings win for Mahanama College.
Inuka Karannagoda was the hero with the ball for Mahanama College in the 2nd innings as he picked up 5 wickets for 41 runs. Sri Lanka U19 capped Duvindu Ranathunga also grabbed 2 wickets, taking his match tally to 7 wickets for 50 runs.
Isuru Ayesh’s brilliant bowling performance helped Ananda College record a 4-wicket win over Zahira College in their Tier ‘B’ two-day encounter, which was worked off today at Ananda College Grounds in Colombo.
Zahira College began their 2nd innings with a 17-run lead, but a terrible batting effort saw them bowled out for just 50 runs, setting an easy target (68) for the hosts. Ayesh was outstanding with the ball for the victorious Ananda College as he bagged 6 wickets for 16 runs.
Royal College Skipper Dasis Manchanayake stroked a double century against Gurukula College in their Tier ‘A’ two-day encounter, which commenced today at Royal College Grounds in Colombo. He scored an unbeaten 200 runs off 200 balls with 25 fours and 2 sixes, helping Royal College post a formidable first innings total on the board.
