Seven matches in the Singer Schools ‘Under 19 Division 1’ Two Day Cricket Tournament 2019/20 were played today (06) at venues all around the country. Four of them concluded as draws and S. Thomas’ College registered a remarkable victory over Ananda College.
SSC witnessed one of the best chases of school cricket in the recent past, with S. Thomas College chasing 173 in the 4th inning at an express pace, thanks to Ryan Fernando who cracked a blistering 75 in the dying hours of the 2nd day.

The Anandians seemed like they hung on to a draw after their fight back in the 2nd innings, declaring 2nd innings for 268/8 after Anuda Jayaweera and Dasun Tharuka’s valuable contributions, but little did they know that a supreme batting display was about to follow.
Yasiru Rodrigo also shone for S. Thomas in the 1st innings, with an exceptional spell of 6/08.
In the fixture between Mahanama College and Zahira College, Pawantha Weerasinghe displayed his great all-round abilities with 118 in the 1st innings and a 5-fer in the second. The match was drawn as Mahanama College registered the 1st innings win.
Leshan Amarasingha and Ravindu Ratnayaka were found in a battle for centuries for Isipathana College, as the pair scored 159 and 100* respectively in their team’s first innings win over the boys from Maliyadeva College.
The Gurukula-Thurstan battle also ended as a draw but Gurukula College had the final say with a first innings win, despite Pinitha Samanthakumara’s 8-fer in the 2nd innings for Thurstan College.
