St. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia secured major honours in their traditional game against Dharmapala College which concluded today, 30th December 2021.
Taking the first lease of the crease, the Thomians posted a total of 206 runs for their first innings. Opener Janindu Abeygoonawardena was the top scorer for the Thomians as he made a pedestrian 58 runs in 111 deliveries.
In reply, the Pannipitiya school only managed 114 runs for their first innings handing the first innings win to the Thomians.
Rashmitha Himantha and Pasindu Theekshana were the only noteworthy names in the Dharmapala scorecard as they made 37 runs each.
The Thomians extended their lead by another 138 runs, thanks to a brisk 52 runs scored by the skipper, Ryan Fernando. He was well-supported by Senadhi Bulankulame who hit a useful 33 runs at the top of the order.
The Dharmapalians came out better with the bat in the second innings as they managed to see through the rest of the game, evading an outright defeat.
They scored 172 runs in the second innings for the loss of 8 wickets at the close of play.
In bowling, the Thomian left-arm spinner stood out in the game as he walked back with a match-bag of 8 wickets in the game.
