Maris Stella College, Negombo defeated President’s College, Kotte by 135 runs in their traditional fixture of Singer U19 Division 1 Cricket Tournament 2018/19 played at St. Sebastian’s grounds, Karuneriya.

Maris Stella, who were put to bat first by President’s College, managed only a convincing 168 runs for their first innings. The top score was the 28 not out by Thilina Perera.
The President’s outing with the bat was even poorer as they fell for 88 runs as a reply. Ravindu Fernando picked up 4 wickets for 23 runs while Pramod Kavinda and Aveesha Keshan both bagged 2 wickets each.

For the second innings, Maris Stella scored 118 run in 35 overs for the loss of 7 wickets. Roshen Fernando made a valuable 36 runs with the bat. Then the innings was declared and a target of 199 runs was set for the President’s College.
The second innings was even terrorising for President’s as they were rattled for just 66 runs. It was Ravindu Fernando again with most of the destruction. He picked up 6 wickets rounding up to a match-bag 10-wicket haul for him.

Dharmapala College played against St. Thomas Matara in another schools U19 fixture today (24th October) at Uyanwatte Stadium, Matara.
St. Thomas won the toss and elected field first. Dharmapala College batted through most of the day and recorded 204 for the innings. D.A. Egodage was the man who stood out for his 89 runs which put Dharmapala in a safe position. St. Thomas’ innings only lasted for 9 overs in the day in which they scored 12 runs without losing any wickets. The play will resume tomorrow for day 2.
