St. Joseph’s College dominated the second semifinal of the Singer Under 19 ‘Division 1’ Two Day Cricket Tournament 2018/19 which concluded today at Royal College grounds in Colombo.
They won the first innings of the 2-day match played against St. Sebastian’s College and sealed the spot in the finals.
The Josephians started the day already in a strong position, 415 for 8 on the back of 3 half centuries and a commanding knock of 116 by Dineth Jayakody.
Sebastianite bowlers let only 18 runs slip through today before wrapping up the St. Joseph’s innings for 433.
Chasing a mammoth first innings score, St. Sebastian’s top order couldn’t make a perfect start in replay, as right arm fast bowler Johanne De Zilva made sure the opposition were 22 for 3, being responsible for all 3 wickets, including the danger man- Nuwanidu Fernando; St. Sebastian’s skipper.
After that it was all a Dunith Wellalage show as the left arm spinner picked up the remaining 7 wickets, restricting the opposition to just 85 runs.
Wellalage conceded only 22 runs while taking those 7 wickets.
Both teams agreed to conclude the match after that and St. Joseph’s won first innings points & qualified to the finals.
