St. Joseph’s College, Colombo came agonisingly close to securing an outright victory against St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa in their traditional encounter of the U19 Inter-Schools Division 1 Two Day Cricket Tournament 2025/26, which concluded today (6 January) at Moratuwa.

After piling up an impressive 344 runs in their first innings, St. Joseph’s College produced a dominant bowling display to dismiss St. Sebastian’s College for just 192 runs. Despite the collapse around him, Adesh Almeida stood tall for the hosts with a brilliant century, offering lone resistance against a disciplined Josephian attack.

Nushan Perera was the chief destroyer for St. Joseph’s College, claiming a fine six-wicket haul to put his side firmly in control of the contest.

Asked to follow on, St. Sebastian’s College fought back to some extent, reaching 151 for 9 wickets by the close, but time ultimately denied St. Joseph’s College a deserved outright victory. Vishwa Peiris starred with the ball in the second innings, grabbing an impressive six-wicket haul to keep the pressure firmly on the hosts.

Meanwhile, St. Peter’s College secured first-innings points against Royal College in their Tier ‘A’ encounter, which ended in a draw at the St. Peter’s College Grounds in Colombo. Royal College’s Rehan Peiris struck a commanding 126, while Asadisa De Silva responded in style for the hosts with a splendid 134, ensuring honours were shared. Janith Panditharathne impressed with the ball for St. Peter’s College, finishing with a six-wicket haul.

In another traditional clash, the encounter between Nalanda College and Prince of Wales’ College ended in a draw, though Prince of Wales’ College claimed major honours thanks to their all-round performances. Suwas Fernando (63), Gawesha Fernando (59) and Pasan Cooray (51) led the batting charge with valuable half-centuries.

The bowlers then took centre stage for Prince of Wales’ College, with Nadul Aponsu (6/53) and Shehan Ashein (5/20) producing impressive spells to cap off a strong overall performance.
