Five games in the U19 Division I schools cricket tournament saw the end of day one and the game between Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala and D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo ended in a draw today.
D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo took home the first innings points in their drawn encounter against Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala. Shanal Binushka and Bihan Gamage scored half-centuries for the boys from Colombo as they anchored the innings to secure first-innings victory.

St. Joseph’s College, Colombo hosted S. Thomas’ College, Colombo in their U19 Division I schools cricket tournament Tier ‘A’ encounter at Darley Road. at the end of day one St. Joseph’s College has the slight advantage as they’ve got two priced wickets of S. Thomas’ at the stroke of stumps. The Josephians posted 196 in their first innings, and Senuja Wakunugoda top-scored for the hosts with 72 runs. The Thomian Spin duo Abheeth Paranawidana and Aaron De Silva were yet again among the wickets with 4 wickets a piece.
At Kothena, St. Benedict’s College hosted the newcomers to the Tier ‘A’ Lumbini College, Colombo. At stumps for day one St. Benedict’s College were 24 for the loss of 1 wicket as the reply for Lumbini College’s 180 they had posted in their first innings. For Lumbini, Ashan Shenilka scored an impressive 60 runs. Ayesh Gajanayaka was the star for the hosts by grabbing 4 wickets.

Thurstan College, Colombo, and St. Sebastian’s College, Katuneriya, ended an action-packed opening day that saw 22 wickets fall. Thurstan College batting first was bowled out for just 136 runs. In reply, St. Sebastian’s College was not able to go past the Thurstan first innings score as Thurstan’s deputy skipper ran riots with the ball in hand. Tanuga Palihawadana ended with figures of 6 for 22 as he prevented his team from losing the first-innings points.
Kithma Widanapathirana’s all-round brilliance was the highlight of day one in the match between Tissa Central College, Kalutara, and Ananda College, Colombo, played in Kalutara. Tissa Central batting first made only 165. Ashinsa Nainayake picked up 4 wickets while Kithma Widanapathirana and Kaveesha Mendis grabbed 3 wickets apiece. Ananda College at stumps were placed in a great position at 125 for the loss of 3 wickets. Kithma Widanapathirana smashed 64 off just 43 deliveries to put the Anandians in a commanding position.
