Two Quarter-Final encounters of the U19 Division 1 Inter-Schools Limited Overs Tournament 2023/24 were played today (13th November), at Colombo and Mount Lavinia.

Thurstan College registered a dominant win over Dharmaraja College in the Division 1 Tier B Quarter-Final encounter played today at St. Joseph’s College Grounds, Colombo.

The game was reduced to a 40-over contest due to the wet ground conditions. After been asked to bat first, Thurstan College posted 250 for 7 in the allotted 40 overs thanks to a blistering knock from Shanikya Deshapriya, who made 87 runs off 48 balls with 5 fours and 7 sixes.

On their turn with the ball, the Thurstan bowlers led by off-spinner Vihas Thewmika, produced a brilliant bowling display to restrict Dharmaraja to just 82 runs. Thewmika strangled Dharmaraja batters, picking up 5 wickets for 18 runs in his 8-over spell.

St. Peter’s College advanced to the Semi-Finals of the U19 Division 1 Inter-Schools Limited Overs Tournament as their Quarter-Final encounter against Mahinda College was abandoned due to rain in S. Thomas’ College Grounds in Mount Lavinia.

Due to the rain, the match was reduced to a 20-over contest, in which the boys from Galle opted to bat first after winning the toss. Mahinda College posted 55 runs for 3 wickets in 11.3 overs before the heavens opened up once again to stop the play.

Since there was no possibility of resuming the game again, the match officials called off the match and awarded the win for St. Peter’s College based on their Group stage points. St. Peter’s College was ranked 2nd in Group X with 23 points, while Mahinda College was ranked 3rd in Group Y with 22 points at the end of Group stage matches.
