U19 Cricket – Trinity register 3rd outright win; Isipathana take major honours against Mahanama

Two under 19 division one ‘Singer’ cup matches concluded on Tuesday with Trinity College, Kandy posting their third outright victory in the season while Isipathana started off their campaign with a first-innings win. 

 

Trinity College vs De Mazenod College

Nushan Weerasinghe hammered a brilliant century as the defending champions clinched an 8-wicket win over De Mazenod College at Kandana. 

Opening batsman, Weerasinghe top scored with 110 runs in 128 balls inclusive of 15 fours and 2 sixes to help Trinity to 288 runs before fast-bowler, Lahiru Kumara and off-spinner Raveen Sayer rattled the hosts with excellent bowling. 

Left-arm spinner Akash Senaratne captured a five-wicket haul for the home team and stroked two vital knocks of 21 and 43 respectively. 

Trinity College have now registered 3 consecutive outright wins in 10 days to stamp their authority early in the season. 

Trinity – 288 all out in 65.1 overs: Shanogeeth Sanmuganathan 23, Nushan Weerasinghe 110, Shavindu Amarasinghe 51, Dilan Jayalath 31, T. Banugoban 21, Akash Senaratne 5/87, Ashen Fernando 2/50, Sangeeth Deshan 2/17.

De Mazenod – 118 all out in 28.5 overs: Akash Senaratne 21, Krishan Sanjula 31; Lahiru Kumara 4/46, Raven Sayer 4/35.

De Mazenod (2nd inn F/O) – 211 all out in 56.5 overs: Akash Senarathna 43, Shanuka Fernando 40, Nushan Weerasinghe 3/26, Raveen Sayer 2/54.

Trinity (2nd inn) – 42-2 in 6.1 overs: Dilan Jayalath 34*. 

 

Isipathana College vs Mahanama College 

Pramod Maduwantha starred with both bat and ball for Isipathana College as they recorded a hard-fought first innings win over Mahanama College in their drawn encounter at BRC grounds. 

Left-handed Maduwantha made an excellent 102 with 7 fours and 4 sixes as the home team reached a formidable 259. 

Right-handed Kavindu Munasinghe followed up his excellent work with the ball to muster a fighting century for the visitors but Maduwantha was once again the star performer for Isipathana as he scalped 4 wickets to bowl out Mahanama for 226 handing a slender 33-run lead for the boys from Havelock Town. 

Left-arm spinner, Kanishka Gimhana picked up 8 wickets in the match for Mahanama College.

Isipathana – 259 all out in 65.2 overs: Pramod Maduwantha 102, Kalana Perera 37, Pathum Nissanka 37, Ayana Siriwardena 37, Kanishka Gimhana 5/50, Kavindu Munasinghe 3/27.

Mahanama – 226 all out in 93 overs: Kavindu Munasinghe 108, Vimukthi Panditharathne 28, Pramod Maduwantha 4/58, Lahiru Dilshan 3/31.
