U19 Cricket - POW v Dharmapala

Prince of Wales’ College, Moratuwa started off the under 19 division 1 cricket season 2016/17 with a bang as they crushed Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya by an innings and 221 runs in their traditional fixture which concluded today in Pannipitiya.

The Cambrians rewrote history as they dismissed the Palians to the lowest-ever score in an under 19 division 1 match – 16 runs yesterday.

POW Skipper Vishva Chathuranga won the toss and elected to bat first. The visitors clobbered 361 for the loss of 8 wickets before declaring their innings. Avindu Fernando, Captain Chathuranga, Sanoj Dharshika and Dilanka Maduranga all made half-tons.  The only consolation for the hosts was off-spinner Mahima Weerakoon’s spell of 8 for 87 as he took all eight wickets to fall in Cambrian innings.

Fast-bowler Anjula Sahan ripped through the Dharmapala innings as he grabbed 6 wickets for just 12 runs while his partner-in-crime Avindu Fernando gave away the remaining 4 runs to bag 3 wickets.

Following on, Dharmapala College was 40 for no loss at stumps on day one. The home team was blown away by lunch on day two as last year’s captain, left-arm spinner Thilan Nimesh picked up a five-wicket haul. Opening batsman Avishka Hasarindu made a valiant effort of 43 but his team was only able to score 124.
