Thilan Nimesh slams century; Namoshka De Silva bags 8-for

All-rounder and former Captain Thilan Nimesh excelled with both bat and ball as the Cambrians dominated the opening day against DS Senanayake College, Colombo in their Singer-cup traditional game which began today in Moratuwa.

Prince of Wales College, winning the toss and batting first, made a reasonable 266 for 9 wickets in 60.4 overs. Cambrian right-hander Thilan Nimesh smashed 111 runs as his teammates Avindu Kanesh and Dilanka Maduranga made useful 40s for the home team. Tiron Pitigala and Muditha Lakshan picked up 3 wicket hauls for the visitors.

In reply the visitors were 63 for 3 in 24.1 overs at stumps.

St. Joseph’s College vs Wesley College

St. Joseph’s College Colombo finished strong against Wesley College, Colombo in the Bryan Claessen-Arthur Hekal Memorial trophy traditional game which began today at Campbell Park.

The Josephian skipper Harin Cooray won the toss and opted to bat first in their centenary encounter. The visitors were able to pile up 268 runs in 73 overs as left-handed Nipun Samarasinghe, middle-order batsman Jehan Fernandopulle and Pahan Perera scored classy half-tons. In-form Dineth Madurawala chipped in with 42, while Movin Subasinghe and Sakuntha Liyanage shared 6 wickets for the home team.

In reply the hosts were 57 for 2 at stumps.

Ananda College, Colombo holds the edge over St. Peter’s College, Colombo in their Singer-Cup traditional game which started today at Ananda grounds.

The Peterites, batting first were bowled out for 182 runs inside 62 overs. Right-handed Salith Fernando anchored the innings as he made 77 runs and was ably supported by Ranmith Jayasena who chipped in with 45. Dileepa Jayalath and Supun Waragoda grabbed 3 scalps each for the lads from Ananda.

In reply the hosts were 122 for 5 in 35 overs at close. Right-handed Kavindu Gimhana stroked 77 runs, while Miflal Ameen finished with 3 for 21.

Namoshka De Silva picked up 8 for 42 as St. Sebastian’s College,  Moratuwa dominated the opening day against De Mazenod College, Kandana in their Singer-cup traditional game which began at the De Mazenod grounds.

The visitors were invited to bat first and were knocked out for a paltry 139 runs inside 33 overs. Left-arm fast bowler Dineth Fernando was almost unplayable as he completed a 6 wicket haul for De Mazenod. Right-handed Tashik Perera made an unbeaten 60 for the lads from Moratuwa.

In reply De Mazenod College were bundled out for 120 runs in 31 overs as the young fast bowler Namoshka De Silva dismissed the opposition batsmen as he completed an 8 wicket haul, while Mithila Geeth chipped in with 39 runs for the hosts.

The visitors batting second were 74 for 3 at close of play.
