Sri Lanka U19s won their second game in the ACC Asia Cup 2021 against Nepal today (26th Sunday) at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Coming from an astounding win in their last game, Sri Lanka U19s showed no signs of taking their foot off the throttles as they wrote off Nepal U19s by 60 runs.

Once again it was the batters show from Sri Lanka as the explosive opener Chamindu Wickramasinghe and No. 4, Sadisha Rajapaksa made pressing centuries to sweep Nepal out early.

Wickramasinghe, who also made a fine half-century in the previous game, extended his run tally by 111 runs off 126 deliveries with 2 sixes and 8 fours in his knock.

Rajapaksa on the other was unfolding one of the most glorious knocks of his career as the youngster brought up his maiden Youth International hundred in a spectacular manner.

Watching him bat was an enjoyment, fast-paced, yet smooth and soothing. He made a swashbuckling 131 runs to push his team to a towering 322-run total in their 50 overs.

The pair were involved in a record-breaking 223-run partnership which is now the highest partnership for any wicket by a Sri Lankan pair in Youth ODIs. Speaking of record partnerships and Sadisha Rajapaksa – The Royalist was involved in the highest partnership for Royal College at the start of their last season.

In the second essay of the match, Nepal U19s showed a lot of intent in chasing down this massive total. But unfortunately fell 60 runs short of the mark in the 48 over.

Even though it was not a case of picking up wickets in clusters in this game, the Sri Lankan bowlers did not allow their opponents to get on top of the required rate at any point of the game. As a result, they succumbed to the pressure that mounted upon them.

The vice-captain of the team, Raveen de Silva was the pick of the bowlers as the right-arm leggie bagged 3 wickets for 35 runs.

Speedster Matheesha Pathirana too picked up 3 wickets for 49 runs to earn his share of the spotlight.

Sri Lanka U19s, now a very confident outfit going around in the tournament, will meet Bangladesh U19s for the third game on the 28th of December at the same venue.
