U17 Tournament kicks-off; St. Aloysius’ demolish St. Servatius’

The Singer U17 Cricket Tournament kicked-off recently with 5 matches played across locations spread around the island. The tournament which was scheduled to have been kicked off on the 23rd was delayed due to the bad weather that prevailed.

Ananda College (A) vs Sri Sumangala Panadura

Having won the toss Ananda College decided to take first use of the pitch piling up a massive 309 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allocated 50 overs. Senera Kudagama stroked his way to a brilliant century while Vinuja Wijebandara and Dasun Tharaka chipped in with half centuries scoring runs quickly showing no mercy to the bowlers.

In reply Sri Sumangala could only manage 223 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the 50 overs with Mihiranga Fernando top scoring with 86 runs and Imeth Gampola adding 54 runs. Adeesha Perera was the pick of the bowlers for Ananda College with 3 wickets for 28 runs.

St.Thomas vs Kalutara Vidyalaya

St.Thomas College Matara clinched a tense 21 run victory at the Kalutara Grounds against Kalutara Vidyalaya. Having won the toss Kalutara Vidyalaya opted to field first dismissing the Thomians for 133 runs in 38.3 overs. The top scorer of the Thomas innings was Sachintha Gimhan with an unbeaten 47 runs while Hirusha Jeewajith chipped in with 38 runs.

However, chasing the modest total Kalutara lost their way being dismissed for just 112 runs in 45 overs. Sachira Rashmika picked up 4 wickets for 31 runs while Moshitha Apthsara chipped in with two wickets.

St. Aloysius’ College vs St. Servatius’ College

St. Aloysius’, College Galle registered a massive 122 run victory over their Group J opponents and the defending champions, St. Servatius’ College Matara earlier this evening at Wasgama Public grounds. After winning the toss, the lads from Matara opted to bowl first on a good batting track which the Aloysius lads profited off.

Half centuries from Kavindu Dilhara and Omal Sadith propelled Aloysius to 201 runs before being dismissed in 41.3 overs. Chasing the target Servatius batsmen failed to make any worthy contributions as they were bundled out for just 79 runs in 29 overs.

Moratu Vidyalaya vs Piliyandala Central

Moratu Maha Vidyalaya locked horns with Piliyandala Central, although it was a much looked forward to encounter on paper the game turned out to be one-way traffic in favor of Piliyandala Central. Having batted first Moratu Maha Vidyalaya managed 81 runs in 31 overs courtesy of some brilliant bowling from Sandun Sathsara and Ushan Deemantha picking up 4 and 3 wickets respectively. Chamalka Pushpakumara top scored for Moratu Vidyalaya with 28 runs.

Piliyandala chased down the target in just 16.4 overs for the loss of 3 wickets securing a 7 wicket win over their opponents in quick succession.

Play was cut short at Rathgama Public grounds in the match between Devapathiraja and Richmond due to the bad weather that prevailed. When play was stopped Devapathiraja were halted at 68 runs for the loss of 4 wickets after having been put into bat by the Richmond Captain.
