Devapathiraja edge past Mahanama to clinch U17 Division 1 Title

Devapathiraja College, Rathgama, emerged victorious in the U17 Inter-Schools Division 1 Cricket Tournament 2025, defeating Mahanama College, Colombo, by a nail-biting 12 runs in the final.  

Mahanama College won the toss and elected to field, putting Devapathiraja College in to bat first. Devapathiraja’s opening batter, Arosha Sithumina played a match-defining knock, scoring a brilliant 76 runs off 81 balls, including 7 fours and 4 sixes.

His aggressive yet composed innings laid the foundation for Devapathiraja’s competitive total of 191 runs. Mahanama’s Thenuja Rashmin was the standout bowler, claiming an impressive 5 wickets for 36 runs. 

Chasing 192, Mahanama College fought hard but fell short at 179 runs. Middle-order batter Sanul Weerarathne anchored the innings with a gritty 52 runs off 79 balls, studded with 6 fours, keeping his team in the hunt.

However, Devapathiraja’s bowlers, led by Oshen Kalhara and Sandaru Malshan, proved too strong. Kalhara was the wrecker-in-chief, taking 4 wickets for just 20 runs, while Malshan supported with 3 wickets for 31 runs.
