Defending champions Trinity College Kandy defeated Dharmaraja College Kandy by three wickets in an under 19 division one Group A match that was played at Lakeview Grounds this Friday and Saturday.

Rajans playing in their home grounds were bundled out for 119. Deshan Gunasinghe was the only batsman to score few runs as he managed to notch up a half-century while the rest did not contribute much to their total. Skipper Raveen Sayer and left-arm spinner Duvindu Thilakarathne shared seven wickets between them.

A solid first-innings score of 220 was made by the visitors in return, taking the first innings lead to 101 runs. Raveen Sayer, playing a fine captain’s knock added 66 runs with his bat to the team total. Ruchira Pupulewatte claimed half a dozen wickets with his left-arm spin bowling.

In their second innings, Rajans batting was better, compared to their first innings as they put up a decent 219 on the board, but was not sufficient to give Trinitians a strenuous challenge. Former Sri Lanka Under 19 poolist Raveen Sayer and Duvindu Thilakarathne captured five wicket hauls for the winners.

Visitors’ 2nd innings batting was not extremely facile as they anticipated since they had to struggle with the tight spin attack of Rajans on their way to chase a target of 119. Left arm spinner Ruchira Pupulewatte bagged another six, registering a match bag of 12 wickets for 110 runs.

The Trinitians finished the game in style with a cracking six and won by 3 wickets.
