Travel Trade to colour Mt Lavinia with Beach Rugby

The inaugural Beach Tag Rugby Championship organized by the Travel Trade Sports Club is set to unfold on the Mt Lavinia beach this Sunday 14th December 2013.

The event is sponsored by Walkers Tours and hosted by Mt Lavinia Hotel and will  commence at 9.00am on the private beach, Mt Lavinia Hotel.

It is expected to attract the entire Travel Trade community and will go on until around 5.00pm In carnival style.  The championship will be worked off in three segments ; Championship Trophy, Plate Championship and Bowl Championship and awards for the best player will be on offer as well.

Speaking on tournament, Denesh Silva said ‘we take pride in concluding ten events this years, with the eleventh being the tag rugby event which would be included for the first time in the Travel Trade events calendar’ 

‘We are very happy to see this sport being revived again, and I am happy that we have a high level of participation which augurs well for the tournament, with the tourism industry doing well its is important to engage in such activities to strike a balance between work and play’ said Wasantha Leelananda, Executive Vice President John Keels Group.

‘Rugby is a very popular sport today, and in terms of sponsorship Rugby has overtaken all sports in Sri Lanka especially in Schools Rugby and I am happy that Travel Trade Sports Club is on course to reviving this tournament.’ said Tournament Consultant, Dilroy Fernando.

Following the completion of the pool games, the group winners and runners up will progress to the cup / plate quarter finals in the competition with the third and fourth placed teams playing in the Bowl / shield  quarter final.
