ThePapare Under 20 Football Championship 2018 semi finals will be worked off on the 14th December at the Sugathadasa Stadium. Maris Stella College will take on St. Joseph’s College at 3.00pm while Hameed Al Husseinie College will lock horns with St. Patrick’s College at 5.30pm.

Semi Final 1

Maris Stella College vs St. Joseph’s College.

Boys from Negombo got the better of another Jaffna school, Mahajan College thanks to an inspired performance by skipper Tharinda Silva. Currently the leading scorer in the tournament Maris Stella will look for their skipper to deliver the good on the day. Other players to watch out for will be Rajindu Fernando and Praneeth Shaminda will be a hand full with his runs.

St. Joseph’s once again came from behind to beat traditional rivals St. Peter’s in their quarter final. Despite not having the service of Asela Madushan due to long term injury the Maradana boys have depth in their squad. The attacking threat will come from Shenal Sandesh and Chalana Pramantha and the midfield will be controlled by Nimesh Cooray. Captain Marshal Kodikara will be a doubtful starter after being stretchered off in the quarter final with a nasty injury.

Semi Final 2

Hameed Al Husseinie College vs St. Patrick’s College Jaffna

Piped against a strong Gampola Zahira College team in the quarters, Hameedia were superior in their victory. A completely dominant performance despite the score line reading 2-1 in favour of the Colombo boys. Mohamed Afkar and Dinesh Suren will be the players to watch out for along with their formidable midfielder and skipper Mohamed Aman. Though this is not the semifinal they anticipated it will be a tough challenge coming their way from Jaffna.

Can Hameedia stop the Jaffna juggernaut?

St Patrick’s College arguably creating the upset of the season by going to a half time lead of 3-0 against Zahira College Colombo and finally managed to come through in penalties. A very physical and fast team with a wealth of experience up front and in the midfield. Line lead by Hamilton Hains and Rajikumar Santhan the boys from Jaffna will look to write history once again. Led by Ramesh Dilakshan St. Patrick’s College will not be overwhelmed by the occasion.

Will the Championship Trophy head north?

The 3rd/4th Playoff will be taking place on the 16th December at 3.00pm and the Grand Final is scheduled on the same day at 5.45pm.
