Bringing in all the confidence they got from the big match win, Thurstan College secured a dominating victory over Isipathana College by 139 runs in the 39th limited overs encounter played for W. A. de Silva Challenge trophy at the P Sara Oval today.

Thurstan skipper Sandaru Dias won the toss without any doubt decided to bat first. The opening pair started off brilliantly. Yohan Liyanage played a blistering knock of 24 runs and his partner Jayavihan Pradeeptha went on to play the anchor role in the innings. His sublime innings of 83 earned him the Man of the Match award at the end of the game. However, the match defining innings came from their big match centurion, Ranesh Silva. His 44 ball 65 was a treat to watch.
Ranesh swept square, swept fine, scooped, paddle swept and even beltered the ball down the ground in his knock. He and Bawantha Jayasinghe paced the innings perfectly and the Isipathana bowlers had no control of it. Thevindu Dickwella was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets but the rest of the bowlers were leaking runs and ultimately they conceded 256 runs in their allocated 50 overs.
In reply, Isipathana had a huge task ahead of them. They needed a strong start and they got the exact opposite. Three wickets fell between the first 6 overs with their two big boys, Ravindu Ratnayaka and Thevindu Dickwella back in the hut. Ravindu was run out and Dickwella played a poor shot to be caught inside the ring.
There was no turning it around for Isipathana as wickets tumbled and they finally got cleaned up for 117 runs. Medium pace bowler Avishka Kaushlaya picked up 3 wickets up front which earned him the Best Bowlers award. With this win Thurstan completed a hatrick of wins and a golden season for their school.
