Three more Sri Lankans nominated for Big Bash player

Eight Sri Lankans have been nominated for the Player Draft of Big Bash 2022-23.

Cricket Australia (CA) announced today (22nd August) that Sri Lanka’s leg-spinning all-rounders Dushan Hemantha, Ruwantha Kellepotha and the off-spinner Ramesh Mendis have been included in the Player Draft of Australia’s Big Bash League cricket tournament.

The 28-year old Hemantha currently represents Burgher Recreation Club (BRC) in domestic cricket and has played 32 first-class matches, 46 List-A matches and 41 T20s. The 31-year old Kellepotha who last played for Kurunegala Youth Cricket Club 9 years ago, currently residing in Australia playing club cricket down under. The 27-year old Mendis has represented Sri Lanka in 10 Tests, 4 ODIs and 2 T20Is.

Five Sri Lankans (Dinesh Chandimal, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Maheesh Theekshana, Lakshan Sandakan, Prabath Jayasuriya) had already been picked for the draft means altogether 8 Sri Lankans will feature in the Player Draft of Australia’s Big Bash League cricket tournament.

279 cricketers from 19 different countries have been nominated so far for the Player Draft of Big Bash 2022-23.

Big Bash 2022-23 will be conducted from December 2022 to January 2023 with the participation of eight teams, Adelaide Strikers, Brisbane Heat, Hobart Hurricanes, Melbourne Renegades, Melbourne Stars, Perth Scorchers, Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunder.
