Lakshitha Rasanjana shines for Nalanda at SSC

S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia holds the edge over Nalanda College, Colombo in their Singer-cup traditional game which started today at the SSC grounds.

With both teams playing their annual big match encounters in March at the Mecca of Sri Lanka Cricket, S. Thomas’ think tank has planned to give much-needed game time for the boys prior to the Big Match.

The Nalandian skipper Dasun Senevirathne won the toss and invited the Thomians to have a bat; they put up a reasonable total of 263 in 74 overs. Skipper Romesh Nallapperuma steadied the ship for the visitors as he scored 73 runs and was ably supported by right-hander Dinura Gunawardana who chipped in with 63. Right-arm off spinner Lakshitha Rasanjana’s bowling efforts gave him 6 for 76 and fast bowler Kalana Perera picked up 3 wickets.

In reply Nalanda College were 76 for 3 at stumps as Lakshitha Rasanjana was unbeaten on 47 after his 6-for with the ball.

Match will continue tomorrow for day two.

Richmond College vs Trinity College

Trinity College, Kandy took major honours on day one against Richmond College, Galle in their Singer-cup group A game which began today at the Galle international stadium.

Right-hander Chamikara Hewage and left-hander Avindu Theekshana’s half tons guided Richmond College to 223 in 67.5 overs, while left-arm leggie Vimukthi Nethumal grabbed a 5 wicket haul for the lads from Kandy.

In reply, the visitors were well in control at close of play as they made 92 for 1 in 25 overs. Hasintha Jayasuriya and Kalana De Zoysa stroked 30s.

Match will continue tomorrow for day two.

St. Sylvester’s College vs Moratu Vidyalaya

St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy dominated the drawn game against Moratuwa Vidyalaya in their Singer-cup group C game which was worked off today in Moratuwa.

Having wrapped up the first innings points on day one, St. Sylvester’s College went on to score 230 for 8 in 86 overs before declaring their innings. Nimsara Aparagalla stroked 62 vital runs, while Shehada Zoysa completed a 5 wicket haul for Moratu Vidyalaya.

The Moratu boys put up a better fight in the second innings to save the game as they ended the day on 166 for 5 in 68 overs. Nishan Fernando made a classy 43, while Janakantha Rajapaksha picked up 3 wickets.

Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala took major honours in their Singer-cup traditional game against Mahinda College, Galle which ended today at the Maliyadeva grounds.

Resuming day two the lads from Galle accumulated 192 in 79.2 overs in their second innings as left-handed Kavindu Ediriweera top scored with 35, while Manelka Dharmadasa claimed 3 wickets for 29 runs. The Devans, already having claimed first innings points, ended the final day on 124 for 5 in 32 overs as Muditha Premadasa scored 42 at close.
