The Singer League Champions Dhamaraja College drubs C.W.W. Kannagara with 62-08 victory at Royal Sports Complex.

C.W.W. Kannagara had a tough ask at the start to face the champions from the recently concluded league. While, Dharmaraja College was back on the field after a short break since their victory celebrations and looking forward to a winning start in the knockouts. Speaking to ThePapare, the captain of Dharmaraja mentioned their tireless efforts to continue the struggle at the top; the first game for them at the knockouts was special, they were looking forward to a good game rugby.

The Rajans started off aggressively as they look to control possession and gain territory. Kannangara who was fielding a fairly young side, sank in to the pressure as they missed a few opportunities at the start. Thilina Wijesinghe opened the scoring for the Rajans, and from then onwards it was one-way traffic

The Rajans helped themselves to a second courtesy of Buwanaka Udhayanga as they managed to score 12 points within the first 15 minutes of the play. Kannangara who were left wanting, had to alter their tactics, and on their tackling. However, regular lapses of concentration lead to the Rajans scoring at will towards the end of the half with the scores 24-05 in favour of the boys from Kandy.

K.D. Weerakoon and Thilina Wijesingha scored a try a piece for the Rajans towards the end of the half, while H.M. Herath touched down for Kannangara’s solitary try of the game. 

The Rajans kick started the second half in similar dominating fashion. The Kannanagara camp was pushed to their limits as Buwaneka Udayanga scored his second of the game, which was followed by a try fest; H.S.Adhikari, D.Hiyarapitiya and K.P.Huriyagala pooled in together enabling Dharamaraja to hit a half century.

K.G.M.Madhushan save Kannangara a bit of face with a long range penalty, however the Rajans scored a couple more to extend their lead to a mammoth 54 points as the Kandy boys defeated Kannangara 62-08.
