Galina wins the two-mile Sea Swim

Galina Basnayake of Rainbow Swimming Academy and Dilanka Shehan of the Sri Lanka Army won the open Championships of the 84th annual two-mile sea swim championships 2023.

It was an impressive sight to see Para swimmer Basnayake finishing 1st in the open women category with her exceptional performance and gutsy swim. This is the 1st time in Sri Lankan history a para swimmer won the individual championship in an open water swim.

Shehan of the Sri Lanka Army marked his 3rd open water win for 2023 today with his unbeatable swim in the 2-mile race. Shehan also won the 10km open water race and Ambalangoda 2km race earlier this year. His win today, along with his teammates’ efforts took Sri Lanka Army into the 6th consecutive win in the Annual Mount Lavina two-mile sea swim. St. Joseph’s College- Colombo became the runner-up in the men’s category with 67 total points.

The women’s overall championship was won by Prajapathi Gothami Girls College with 42 points. While Rainbow Swimming Academy finished 2nd with a total of 32 points.

In addition, the junior category girl’s championship was won by Ginuki Tharulya of Leeds International School and the junior boy’s champion was Lineth Jayasinghe of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo.
