The 61st Battle of the Brothers encounter between Thurstan College, Colombo and Isipathana College, Colombo, ended in a draw today (25th February) at SSC Grounds, Colombo.
Thurstan College resumed Day Two on 53 runs for 1 wicket but faced early hiccups in the morning session, losing 3 quick wickets for 44 runs.
When Thurstan stuttered at 97/4, the skipper Vihas Thewmika and No. 6 batter Harith Shalaka rebuilt their innings, adding a vital 113-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
Thewmika led from the front with an outstanding knock of 77 runs, which came off 128 balls with 9 fours and a six, while Shalaka contributed with valuable 42 runs.
After the partnership was broken, the door was opened for the Isipathana bowlers to strike as they picked up 4 wickets for 43 runs to make a fightback. However, Thurstan managed to go past Isipathana’s first innings total to put 253/8 on the board before declaring their innings.
Isipathana skipper Sithuka Gunawardene was the pick of the bowlers for their side as he grabbed 4 scalps for 88 runs with his spin tricks.
Isipathana College began their second innings 3 runs behind and posted 113 runs for 1 wicket before the close of play on the second and final day. The opening batter, Ruchith Rodrigo, stood out with a brilliant knock for Isipathana College, smashing 82 runs off 97 balls with 7 fours and 5 sixes.
